Introduction: Every Campground Has Its “Types”
If you’ve spent any amount of time in a campground, you’ve probably noticed something pretty quickly…
Every campground turns into its own little community.
As full-time RVers we are in campgrounds 365 days a year, so we have seen a thing or two!
Different rigs, different routines, different personalities, but after a while, you start to see patterns.
Certain “types” of campers show up at almost every campground, no matter where you are in the country.
And the funny part?
Most of us have been more than one of these at some point.
Whether you’re brand new to RVing or you’ve been doing this for years, you’ll probably recognize a few of these… and maybe even see yourself in one (or a few).

The “We Just Bought This Yesterday” Camper
The Setup-in-Record-Time Pro
This is the camper everyone secretly watches.
They pull in, hop out, and within what feels like five minutes, everything is perfectly leveled, hooked up, and ready to go. No wasted movement, no confusion, no second guessing.
Slides out. Chairs set. Done.
It’s not flashy, but it’s impressive.
These are the people who have clearly done this a hundred times, and while they might make it look effortless, you know there were plenty of learning moments that got them there.

The Outdoor Living Room Family
This campsite looks less like a temporary stay and more like a full-on outdoor home.
There’s a rug, string lights, multiple chairs, maybe a grill, and usually some kind of décor that makes the space feel warm and lived in. Kids are playing, snacks are out, and everything just feels comfortable.
They didn’t just come to camp, they came to settle in.
And if you’re staying for more than a couple of days, this setup starts to make a lot of sense.

The “We Barely Packed Anything” Camper
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum…
You have the campers who seem like they packed in under 10 minutes.
One chair. Maybe two. No rug. No extras.
And somehow… they’re completely content.
They’re not worried about the perfect setup or having everything just right. They’re there for the experience, not the setup, and they’ve mastered the art of keeping things simple.
It’s a reminder that RVing doesn’t have to be complicated to be enjoyable.
The Early Riser Coffee Crew
You’ll never see them the night before…but you’ll always see them in the morning.
They’re up early, sitting outside with a cup of coffee, taking in the quiet before the campground fully wakes up. It doesn’t matter if it’s chilly, cloudy, or perfectly sunny, they’re always out there.
No rush. No noise. Just a slow start to the day.
There’s something about RV life that makes mornings feel different, and this group fully leans into it.

The Campfire Crew
If there’s a fire going, they’re there.
This group builds a fire almost every night, and it becomes the gathering place. Kids are running around with flashlights, stories are being told, and time seems to slow down a little.
Morning time? You betcha, they have a fresh new fire started first thing in the morning too!
It’s not about the perfect fire, it’s about the time around it.
These are the moments that tend to stick with you long after the trip is over.
The “Everything Is Planned” Family
This group has a plan, and it’s a good one.
Meals are thought out, activities are lined up, and there’s a clear idea of how the weekend or trip is going to go. They’re maximizing their time and making sure nothing important gets missed.
And honestly, it works.
Especially for shorter trips, having a plan can make the experience feel fuller and less rushed.

The “We’ll Figure It Out” Family
Now, on the complete opposite end…..No plan. No schedule. Just vibes.
They show up, take a look around, and decide what to do as they go. One day might be packed with activity, the next might be slow and relaxed.
There’s a flexibility here that a lot of people aim for.
And while it might feel chaotic to some, for others, it’s exactly what makes RV life enjoyable.
The Weekend Warriors
You’ll recognize them by the timing.
They roll in Friday evening, get set up quickly, and make the absolute most of every minute until Sunday morning. Bikes come out fast, meals are efficient, and downtime is minimal.
They know their window is short, and they’re not wasting it.
There’s an energy to weekend campers that’s different, it’s focused, intentional, and packed with memories in a short amount of time.
The “We Might Never Leave” Camper
This is the group that feels like part of the campground itself.
They know the neighbors, the routines, and probably the best spots around. Their setup is dialed in, their schedule is relaxed, and they’ve found a rhythm that works.
They’re not rushing anything.
And if you talk to them long enough, you’ll probably pick up a tip or two that only comes from experience.
You’re Probably More Than One

The truth is…
Most of us don’t fit into just one of these.
We’ve been the overwhelmed beginner. We’ve had weekends where everything was planned. And we’ve also had trips where we just figured it out as we went.
That’s part of what makes RV life so unique.
There’s no one “right” way to do it.
Whether you’re fully set up with lights and rugs, or sitting outside with just a chair and a cup of coffee, it all counts.
It all works.
And it all leads to the same thing:
Time spent together, new places explored, and memories you’ll carry with you long after the trip ends.
So now we’re curious…
Which one are you?
Or better yet…
Which ones have you been?
